Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia This shot was all about being patient to get the alignment just right. The area around the lighthouse is actually quite a cramped space to work in and I spent a lot of time searching for an angle that worked. To get the camera low enough to frame the stars directly above the tower I ended up lying flat on the ground. I wanted to make sure I captured that exact moment when the Milky Way sat perfectly centered above the lighthouse. It was a long night of waiting in the dark but seeing the galaxy finally line up like that made the whole effort worth it. There is a great sense of peace being out there at 2:00 AM with such a clear view of the stars stretching out over the ocean. I am glad I stuck it out because this image really captures the scale of the night sky and the incredible detail of the Milky Way as it passes over the coast. Select Options
