Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia SkyPoint sits on the 77th floor of the Q1 Resort and offers a 360 degree view that is nothing short of spectacular. I have visited the observation deck many times over the years but shooting through the thick glass is always a massive challenge due to the internal reflections. To get this shot I had to use a specialised flexible lens hood to seal out the room lights completely and eliminate the glare. I waited for that perfect balance of light during the twilight hour when the sun dipped below the horizon but the sky was still glowing. Using a long exposure I was able to capture the movement of the city through the light trails on the streets while using a small aperture to create the starburst effect on the street lights. The converging lines of the skyline create a great sense of depth that draws you right into the scene. For me this image represents the Gold Coast at its best and it is the view I always think of whenever I am away from home. Select Options
